Off-Road Desert Racing Roars into Balboa Park

SAN DIEGO – The San Diego Automotive Museum presents Dune Buggies and Desert

Racing from now through July 24, 2006.

The rugged and untamed terrain of the desert is the backdrop for the history of

some of the most challenging automotive triumphs of the century.  This exhibit features

vehicles and motorcycles owned by several of the desert racing giants from the San

Diego area, including Ivan “Ironman” Stewart, Corky McMillin, Joe Crawford, Greg

MacDonald, and Bruce Meyers, a renowned boat builder who used his skills to create the

first fiberglass dune buggy (which is on display).  The show also features memorabilia

and other items and artifacts pertaining to the sport.

The San Diego Automotive Museum is open 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM daily (the last

admission is 4:30 PM).  Admission is $7 for adults, $6 for seniors (65 and over), $6 active duty

military with ID, $3 children ages 6 – 15.  Children under the age of 6 are admitted free of

charge.
