Off-Road Desert Racing Roars into Balboa Park
SAN DIEGO – The San Diego Automotive Museum presents Dune Buggies and Desert
Racing from now through July 24, 2006.
The rugged and untamed terrain of the desert is the backdrop for the history of
some of the most challenging automotive triumphs of the century. This exhibit features
vehicles and motorcycles owned by several of the desert racing giants from the San
Diego area, including Ivan “Ironman” Stewart, Corky McMillin, Joe Crawford, Greg
MacDonald, and Bruce Meyers, a renowned boat builder who used his skills to create the
first fiberglass dune buggy (which is on display). The show also features memorabilia
and other items and artifacts pertaining to the sport.
The San Diego Automotive Museum is open 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM daily (the last
admission is 4:30 PM). Admission is $7 for adults, $6 for seniors (65 and over), $6 active duty
military with ID, $3 children ages 6 – 15. Children under the age of 6 are admitted free of
charge.
